How to pitch features to The Sunday Times magazine

Women in Journalism is launching an exciting new lunchtime series for freelance journalists with the award-winning freelance journalist, Donna Ferguson.

The series is aimed at freelance journalists who don’t have a lot of contacts in the industry and want to cold pitch an editor and get their first byline in national newspapers and magazines.

We are inviting top editors who regularly commission articles from freelancers they don’t know to talk about their regular slots and opportunities for freelancers, and explain how to write the best possible pitch for their section. Each session will last for 30 minutes and include time for questions and answers.

The second session will be with Liz Edwards, senior commissioning editor for The Sunday Times Magazine.

It will take place on Wednesday 25th March at 12.30pm online.

About the speakers

Donna Ferguson is a multiple award-winning freelance journalist for national newspapers and Head of the Freelance Chapter for Women in Journalism.

Liz Edwards is senior commissioning editor for The Sunday Times Magazine where she has particular responsibility for the health and fitness pieces (plus beer for balance), and previously commissioned the Life in the Day and Relative Values interviews. She also writes features, reviews and comment pieces across the paper. She is on secondment from her role as assistant editor on the travel desk.

Recordings will be sent to those who purchase a ticket. Experienced freelancers, men and non-binary people are welcome.
