Georgina Henry Award shortlist 2025

The Georgina Henry Award 2025 shortlist has been announced.

Women in Journalism is proud to support the brightest new ideas with an annual £4,000 prize sponsored by Wiggin LLP, in memory of the Guardian’s late deputy editor, Georgina Henry, also a former Women in Journalism chair.

The prize is used to support an initiative by the applicant. The judges look for evidence of impactful journalism and real innovation either through new ideas or principles.

Emma Guy

Emma Guy is the editor and co-founder of The Leicester Gazette, a local, independent newspaper in Leicestershire, as well as former editor or human rights publication EachOther. 

She is nominated for Subtext, an educational, media literacy, human and social rights charity. The project will deliver interactive workshops to young people and those in hard-to-reach communities.

Jessie Lau

Jessie Lau is a freelance and multiplatform journalist from Hong Kong, writing for The Guardian, BBCTimes Literary Supplement, CNN and more.

They are nominated for their work setting up New Tide Media Network, the UK’s only network to strengthen East and Southeast Asian voices and perspectives in journalism. Their sold-out launch welcomed more than 60 journalists.

Megha Mohan

Megha Mohan is the BBC’s first global gender and identity correspondent, covering issues concerning women’s rights, LGBT communities, race and ethnicity.

Her book, Herlands, has just been published by Penguin.

She is nominated for Shared Record, an ethical collective reporting app to rebuild trust between journalists and underserved communities.

Eve Smallman

Eve Smallman is the founder of The Notts Edit, an online lifestyle magazine dedicated to showcasing the best of Nottinghamshire.

Founded in 2023 and read by hundreds of thousands of people, it aims to fill a gap in local news and lifestyle provision, as well as provide opportunities to other journalists.

She is also a freelance writer for House BeautifulHome & Garden, and more.

Nadine White

Nadine White is the founder of Black Current News, a digital independent platform dedicated to documenting Black Britain in real time, for which she is nominated.

Previously, she was race correspondent at The Independent, the only such title at a UK news outlet. She is also the founder of Brixton Heights CIC, where she led the production of Barrel Children” The Families Windrush Left Behind.
