After a getting her history degree from Edinburgh University, Alison spent a year freelancing for corporate and music magazines.

FIRST JOB:

Alison landed a trainee reporter’s job with The Scotsman newspaper on £9000 a year. She got her NCTJ qualifications at a training centre in Newcastle, then worked as a staff reporter for three years.

MOVE:

Alison moved over to The Glasgow Herald as a staff reporter aged 25.
