I moved out here in February 2005 – basically I came on holiday and refused to go home. I loved it so much and was in total despair at living in the UK. The weather was a major factor but also there was real lack of facilities for a woman my age where I lived in England. It was just the pub or nowhere. Not being a pub person, I was incredibly limited. It’s all right if you‘re 18 and want to go clubbing but I certainly don’t want to do that anymore. I had a very vague grasp of the language and just started renting a house.
